Finally, some height. Not that height is safe, either, in a hot air balloon. The balloon yo-yos much more than I am ready for, but it makes sense that there is broadly no damping and so it oscillates about an equilibrium position. I expect that's why the ascent was so gentle, to try to reduce the overshoot.
